Situated in the heart of a cosmopolitan and vibrant city, the University has an annual revenue of £687.9 million, a student body of nearly 30,000 (from more than 140 countries around the world) and over 9,000 staff.  The University of Glasgow, established in 1451, is a founding member of the UK’s Russell Group of Universities. It has earned an international reputation for research innovation and connecting with experts in global business.  The University of Glasgow is ranked in the top 100 of the world’s Universities and is ranked 67th in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2020, which reinforces its position as one of the world’s leading teaching and research institutions.  The University has also launched an exciting transformation programme: World Changing Glasgow Transformation (WCGT) to support the delivery of our strategic ambitions; this involves a major construction programme comprising new build and refurbishment work.

The University is seeking an experienced Executive Director of Finance with the strategic, operational and leadership capabilities to provide excellent financial leadership, guidance and stewardship, as the institution develops into the future. The Executive Director of Finance will be accountable for the strategic leadership and direction of the Finance directorate and related functions across the University ensuring the long-term financial success of the institution. The successful candidate will be expected to add value to the University’s commercial initiatives and foster a business partnering approach across the University. As a member of the Senior Management Group, they will play a vital role in supporting and delivering the strategic aims and ambitions of the University and will be responsible to the Principal and Vice Chancellor for the University’s financial performance.

Candidates will have a compelling track record of senior financial leadership within a complex organisation of significant scale. Though they may come from a variety of sectors, they will have a commercial and strategic mindset which enables them to develop and deliver plans to enhance the financial position of the University of Glasgow. They will be a committed team player with a collegial approach and an aptitude to inspire a range of diverse teams. Whilst experience of working within higher education is not a pre-requisite, candidates must be able to demonstrate the cultural flexibility to play a key role in the leadership of an important, wide-ranging and complex organisation with the energy and capacity to embrace new challenges.
